Chicago, Ill. - The Wheaton women's basketball team traveled to Chicago's north side on Wednesday night for a CCIW matchup at North Park (15-8, 8-7 CCIW). The Vikings defeated the Thunder 57-43 to sweep the season series against Wheaton. The Thunder women's basketball squad is now 15-9 overall and 7-8 in conference play.
Annika Richardson led Wheaton with a team-high 12 points tonight. The freshman grabbed six rebounds, with two assists and two steals.
Caroline Sikkink scored nine points with 10 rebounds and two steals.
Hannah Swider tallied eight points, while
Ellie Cassel collected 10 rebounds.
The Thunder shot 24.6% (14-of-57) from the field, with 22.2% (4-of-18) behind the three-point arc. North Park posted a 35.6% (21-of-59) field goal percentage, including 41.7% (5-for-12) from three-point range. The hosts shot 76.9% (10-of-13) at the free throw line and the Thunder had a 64.7% (11-of-17) effort at the charity stripe. Wheaton out-rebounded the Vikings 44-43, including a 14-10 edge on the offensive glass.Â
The Thunder led the hosts 4-3 with 7:52 remaining in the first quarter. North Park's Esther Miller made a basket with 6:55 remaining in the quarter to start a 11-4 run for the hosts that gave the Vikings the lead for good. NPU led 19-11 at the end of the first quarter and the Vikings held a 31-17 lead at the halftime intermission. The Vikings maintained there advantage throughout the second half.
Lauren Lee led North Park with 18 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Jayla Johnson scored 16 points, with nine rebounds and Miller scored 12 points with eight rebounds.
Wheaton closes out the regular season on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. with a "Senior Night" matchup against Millikin in King Arena.
