Grand Rapids, Mich. – The Wheaton wrestling team returned to action this weekend at Cornerstone University's Blithe Memorial Duals. Wheaton posted a 3-3 record over the six dual meets it participated in this weekend.

In Saturday's action, Wheaton earned a pair of wins. The Thunder defeated Defiance 45-10 and earned a 38-18 victory against St. Ambrose. Wheaton lost a matchup against Albion, 30-10.

On Friday, Wheaton earned a 28-15 victory against Siena Heights University. The Thunder dropped a 26-17 matchup against Liberty University and fell to Cornerstone 27-15 in Friday's other contests.

WHEATON DEF. ST. AMBROSE UNIVERSITY 38-10
Wheaton's Brendan Johnston picked up Wheaton's first win with a 16-0 technical fall against Ariel Vega at 125-pounds. Cade Zeamer won by fall at 2:28 against Slade Dias at 157-pounds and Robert Osborn won a 5-0 decision against Jeremiah Morris at 285-pounds. Cooper Chapman (133-pounds), Ethan Renager (141-pounds), Jacob Kraker (174-pounds), and Jackson Punzel (197-pounds) were victorious by forfeit.

WHEATON DEF. DEFIANCE 45-10
Renager earned a win by fall at 1:04 of his match at 141-pounds against Brandon Ruiz. Zeamer picked up a fall 27-seconds into his win against Alejandro Castro at 157-pounds. Punzel pinned Lesly Fleurissaint 1:10 into their match at 197-pounds and Osborn pinned Kelvin Ruffin at the 1:17 mark of the contest at 285-pounds. Cale Coppess won a 5-2 decision against Defiance's Shamique Bryant at 149-pounds. Chapman (125-pounds) and Garrett Boyd (165-pounds) each won by forfeit.

ALBION DEF. WHEATON 30-18
Zeamer won by fall at 1:03 of his match against Thomas Potter at 157-pounds. Kraker earned a 6-1 decision against Jack Smith at 174-pounds and Punzel won a 12-7 decision against Garrett Iobe at 197-pounds. Renager won by forfeit at 141-pounds.

WHEATON DEF. SIENA HEIGHTS 28-15
Zamora earned a fall in his match at 125-pounds against Zachary LaPlante. Renager won an 11-2 major decision against Christopher Sorrow and Zeamer picked up an 8-0 major decision against Matthew Dyer at 157-pounds. Kraker earned a 15-3 major decision against Brandon Rau at 184-pounds and Punzel won a 14-1 major decision against Wesley Peters at 197-pounds. Coppess defeated Dylan McLean in a 9-3 decision at 149-pounds and Boyd won a 7-0 decision at 165-pounds against Gage Parker.

LIBERTY DEF. WHEATON 26-17
Punzel defeated Sean Gillespie in a 14-4 major decision in their matchup at 197-pounds. Renager won a 9-0 major decision against Garrett Good at 141-pounds. Zamora won a 9-7 decision at 125-pounds against Dante Minnino and Johnston defeated Blake Schmitt 5-0 in their match at 133-pounds. Zeamer won an 8-1 decision against Brandon Ahlemann at 157-pounds.

CORNERSTONE DEF. WHEATON 27-15
Punzel picked up a fall over Cornerstone's Mario Harkonen just 43-seconds into their match at 197-pounds. Osborn won a 7-0 decision at 285-pounds against Brendan Mahar. Renager defeated Devan Johnson in a 2-0 decision at 141-pounds and Zeamer won a 4-2 decision against Thade Radosa in their matchup at 157-pounds.
