Wheaton, Ill. - The Wheaton wrestling team hosted a tri-match against University of Chicago and Aurora University on Saturday afternoon in King Arena. Wheaton closed out the triangular with a
24-20 victory against Aurora.
University of Chicago defeated the Thunder 35-11 in the opening match of the day and the
Maroons defeated Aurora 40-8 in the second match.
A pair of Thunder wrestlers earned wins in both matches today as
Brendan Johnston and
Ethan Harsted (PICTURED LEFT) each went 2-0. Johnston won a 13-2 major decision against Chicago's Matt Perez at 125-pounds in the first match of the day. He defeated Aurora's Tyler Evitts in a 6-1 decision in the final dual. Harsted earned his wins on Saturday in different weight classes. The fifth-year senior defeated Chicago's Vincent Menozzi in a 4-2 decision at 141-pounds. Harsted won a 9-3 decision at 157-pounds against Aurora's Ian Funk.
Wheaton's
Cale Coppess won a 10-3 decision at 149-pounds against Aurora's Evan Reilly.
Cade Zeamer won a 10-5 decision against Manny Diaz of Aurora in their match at 165-pounds.
Alex Armira (141-pounds) and
Jackson Punzel (197-pounds) earned wins via forfeit against Aurora.
Jacob Kraker won a 12-3 major decision at 174-pounds against Chicago's Hutch Lynott.
