No. 14 Thunder men's basketball falls at Millikin, 76-51

Decatur, Ill. - The No. 14 ranked Wheaton Thunder men's basketball team traveled to Millikin on Wednesday night for a conference matchup against the Big Blue. Millikin (10-7, 5-3 CCIW) topped the Thunder 76-51 in the Griswold Center. Wheaton is now 13-4 overall and 5-3 in CCIW play. The Thunder return home on Saturday night for its second meeting of the season against No. 12-Elmhurst (12-3, 4-2 CCIW).

Nyameye Adom led the Thunder with 17 points tonight at Millikin. The senior made three three-pointers, and collected four rebounds. Tyson Cruickshank scored 14 points, with four rebounds and three assists. Cade Alioth scored nine points, with 10 rebounds, and four assists.

The Thunder shot 28.8% (15-of-52) from the field, including 22.7% (5-of-22) from three-point range. Millikin had a 47.4% (27-of-57) field goal percentage tonight, including 28.6% (4-for-14) behind the three-point arc. Millikin shot 85.7% (18-for-21) at the free throw line tonight and Wheaton had an 84.2% (16-of-19) effort at the charity stripe. Millikin is just the third opponent to out-rebound the Thunder in a game this season. The Big Blue had a 39-29 rebounding advantage, including a 10-9 edge on the offensive glass. The hosts were particularly strong inside tonight, with a 38-18 advantage for the Big Blue in the paint.

Millikin's Calvin Fisher led all players with 21 points tonight. Fisher added eight rebounds, with three assists, three blocked shots and five steals. Scott Gowan scored 12 points for the Big Blue and Noah Livingston added 11 points with three assists. Demarcus Bond scored 10 points with six rebounds and three assists. 

Millikin led early tonight as the Big Blue scored the first seven points of the game in the opening 2:10. Wheaton battled back with a 10-2 run to take a 10-9 lead with 13:54 remaining in the first half. The hosts led by one point at 21-20 with 6:30 remaining in the first half when the Big Blue put together a 14-5 run to close out the half. The scoring surge for Millikin allowed the hosts to lead 35-25 at halftime. Alioth led Wheaton in the first half with nine points, six rebounds, and two assists. Bond scored a team-high eight points for the Big Blue in the first half.

Millikin led 42-33 with 13:10 left in the game when they put together an 8-2 run to extend their lead to 19 points at 54-35 with 9:30 remaining in the game. The hosts led by as many as 27 points in the contest with a 76-49 bulge in the final minute.
