Elmhurst, Ill. - The Wheaton wrestling team returned to action on Saturday at Elmhurst University's Al Hanke Invitational. The Thunder wrestling program finished fifth in the 15-team field.
UW-Stevens Point placed first with 122 points, Lincoln College finished second with 113 points, North Central finished third with 103 points, Harper College placed fourth with 96 points and Wheaton rounded out the top-five with 85 points. The host Bluejays finished sixth with 79 points, Concordia (Wis.) scored 63 points in seventh place, University of Chicago was eighth with 46 points, UW-Whitewater was ninth with 43 points, MSOE was 10th with 42 points.
Wheaton senior
Ethan Harsted finished first in the 133-pound weight class on Saturday. He won the event in impressive fashion with three falls and one technical fall. Harsted opened the event with a fall in 2:46 against UChicago's Dylan Clifford in the first round. The Thunder senior earned a fall just 0:29 into his second round match against Elmhurst's Joe Fomaro. Harsted picked up a fall at the 2:00 mark of his semifinal match against Lincoln College's R.J. Marrero. He closed out the title at 133-pounds with a 16-1 technical fall in the championship match against Elmhurst's Justin Hames.
Ethan Renager placed second on Saturday at 141-pounds. He received a first-round bye and picked up a fall at 2:24 in his second-round win against North Central's Caleb Magruder. Renager defeated North Central's Josh Dorr in a 5-3 decision in the second round. He defeated Harper's Martrece Smith with a fall 4:36 into their semifinal matchup. North Central's Javen Estrada defeated Renager in the championship match with a fall at the 1:10 mark.
Brendan Johnston finished second on Saturday at 125-pounds. He opened with a 13-2 major decision in the first round against Lincoln's Jager Ferguson. Johnston defeated MSOE's Jacob Vice with a fall at the 6:17 mark of their second round match. Johnston defeated North Central's Justin Brown in a 10-3 decision in the semifinal round. Joliet Junior College's Luqman Masud defeated Johnston in an 8-3 decision in the championship match.
Stephen Watson placed third in the 174-pound bracket on Saturday. Watson opened with an 11-9 decision over Harper's Ethan Shedbalker in the first round. Watson won a 3-2 decision against Ben Kasten of UW-Stevens Point in the second round. UW-Whitewater's Ryan Riser defeated Watson in an 11-5 decision in the semifinals. Watson defeated teammate

Wheaton travels to Naperville next Saturday to compete at the CCIW Duals on the campus of North Central College.
