Wheaton, Ill. - The Wheaton Thunder women's soccer team hosted UW-Stevens Point (1-3-0) on Tuesday afternoon at Joe Bean Stadium. The Thunder topped the Pointers 3-1.
Wheaton is now 1-0-1 on the season. The Thunder travel to the Pacific Northwest this weekend for a pair of matches. The Thunder take on Pacific Lutheran on Friday and are at Puget Sound on Saturday.
Wheaton scored a pair of first-half goals in today's matchup with UW-Stevens Point to take a 2-0 lead at the end of the first half.
Grace Hermanson scored her first goal of the season in the 13th minute of the match off of a Sophie Lindquist assist. In the 42nd minute it was Hermanson again that struck for the hosts. She collected a loose ball in the box tallied her second goal of the afternoon to give Wheaton a 2-0 lead.
Shortly after halftime ended Wheaton struck again. Lindquist tallied her second goal of the season in the 50th minute as she collected a ball from
Aeva Graber. Linquist tapped the ball in from about five yards out to put the Thunder up 3-0. The Pointers' lone goal came in the 80th minute at Chiaki Vogt scored to account for the 3-1 final score.
Wheaton out-shot the Pointers 22-8 tonight, including a 10-4 edge in shots on goal for the hosts. Thunder goalkeeper
Lauren Ketchum made three saves with zero goals allowed in 69 minutes of work.
Kate Green played the final 20 minutes in net with one goal allowed. UW-Stevens Point goalkeeper Brookelyn Heiss made six saves, with three goals allowed in 90 minutes of action.
