La Verne, Calif. - The Wheaton volleyball team concluded its participation in the 2021 Pacific Coast Classic on Saturday. The Thunder faced University of La Verne in its home gym, with the Leopards earning a 3-1 (23-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-12) victory. Wheaton was also slated to face Cal Lutheran on Saturday, however, that match was canceled due to COVID protocols.
Wheaton won the first set today, 25-23.
Caroline Capps had five kills to lead the Wheaton attack and
Mia Staub added six assists.
Allie High,
Mia Staub and
Colleen Smith each recorded six digs in the set. The Leopards won the second set 25-18 and took a 2-1 lead with a 25-21 victory in the third set. The hosts closed out the match with a 25-12 victory in the fourth set.
Capps led the Thunder against La Verne with 13 kills and she registered a .303 attack percentage in the match.
Naomi Bunker had seven kills and
Audrey Gerze added six kills. Staub led the Thunder wtih 22 assists, with two service aces apiece for Gerze and Bunker. High led Wheaton with 16 digs, Smith added 14 digs and Gerze tallied 12.
The Thunder travel to Benedictine University on Wednesday night for match against the Eagles at 7:00 p.m.
