Rock Island, Ill. – The Wheaton women's soccer team opened conference play on the road on Wednesday night with a matchup at Augustana College (4-4-0. 1-1-0 CCIW). The Thunder jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first half and earned a 3-0 victory against the Vikings.
Wheaton is now 3-5-1 on the season and opens CCIW play 1-0-0. Wheaton travels to Carroll on Saturday for a match against the Pioneers at 5:00 p.m.
Thunder senior
Grace Hermanson scored quickly for the Thunder as she tallied her third goal of the season. Hermanson scored just 3:11 into the match, thanks to an assist from
Morgan Beamer. Sophie Lindquist extended the guests' lead with her third goal of the year at the 17:20 mark of the contest. Lindquist's goal was assisted by senior
Sara Bakke. Bakke scored her second goal of the year just 10 minutes later to put Wheaton up 3-0. Bakke's goal at the 27:49 mark was assisted by Beamer as she dished out two assists in the match.
Wheaton controlled play in the first half as the Thunder out-shot the Vikings 12-5, including a 5-2 edge in shots on goal.
Neither team scored in the second half. The Vikings took five shots in the second half, including three shots on goal. Wheaton had four shots in the final 45 minutes, including one shot on goal.

Lauren Ketchum made five saves in the match to record her first shutout of the season. Janey Castoe started in goal for Augustana. She made two saves and allowed three goals in 45 minutes in the Vikings' net. Kierstyn Rogers made one save and allowed no goals, playing the final 45 minutes in goal for the hosts.
Wheaton out-shot the Vikings 16-10, including a 6-5 edge in shots on goal for the Thunder. Wheaton was awarded nine corner kicks in the match and Augustana had four.
