Wheaton, Ill. – The Thunder softball team hosted Illinois Wesleyan on Friday in a CCIW doubleheader. Today's twinbill was originally scheduled for Saturday but was moved up to today due to heavy rain the forecast on Saturday. The Titans defeated the Thunder 13-3 in the first game and IWU won the second game 3-0. Wheaton is now 9-9 overall and 6-6 in league play, while the Titans are 12-8 overall and 9-5.
The Titans won the first game 13-3 as IWU scored 13 runs, on 13 hits, with one error and Wheaton tallied three runs, on 11 hits on no errors.
Alese Antonello started the game for the Thunder with 1/3 of an inning, allowing one run.
Emilie Gist (6-4) pitched 6-2/3 innings, allowing 12 runs. She scattered 13 hits with six strikeouts.
Emilie Gist was 3-for-4 for the Thunder in game one as she scored two runs.
Claire Busch had a 2-for-4 effort for the hosts.
Ashley Carter hit a double, scoring one run.
Melissa Meiners drove in all three Wheaton runs in the game.
Each team scored a run in their respective half of the first inning. Meiners hit a RBI-single to drive in Gist to tie the game at 1-1 in the first. The Titans took a 3-1 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning. Meiners drove in a run on a ground out in the bottom of the third inning to trim the Titans' lead to 3-2.
Illinois Wesleyan scored six runs in the top of the sixth inning to extend its lead to 9-2. The Titans added four runs in the top of the seventh to increase the guests' advantage to 13-2. Gist led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a double down the rightfield line and she scored two batters later on a ground out by Meiners.
The Titans topped the Thunder 3-0 in the second game as IWU scored three runs, on eight hits, with no errors and Wheaton had zero runs, on seven hits, with no errors. Antonello (1-2) started the game for the Thunder. She tossed six innings, allowing three runs, on eight hits, with three walks and three strikeouts. Meiners was 2-for-3 for the Thunder. Gist,

The Titans gained the lead with two runs in the bottom of the second inning. IWU added one run in the bottom of the sixth to account for the 3-0 final score.
Wheaton returns to action on Monday with a doubleheader at home against North Park. The twinbill against the Vikings was originally schedule for April 8 but was postponed due to rain. Monday's doubleheader is slated to begin at 3:00 p.m.
