Women's tennis remains undefeated in CCIW play with a 6-3 victory at Augustana

Rock Island, Ill. - The Wheaton women's tennis team earned a hard-fought victory at Augustana (4-3, 3-1) on Saturday afternoon, 6-3. Wheaton is now 5-2 on the season and 4-0 in CCIW play.

Doubles play proved key for the Thunder in today's victory. The first doubles match to conclude was an 8-3 win for the Augustana No. 3 doubles team of Caitlyn Hanulikova and Lauren Oda against Wheaton's Bethany Hoogerheide and Lindsey Anderson. Claire Dibble and Mary Streller teamed for an important 8-7 victory at No. 2 doubles against Morgan Bullen and Kalli Majewski. Wheaton closed out doubles play with a 2-1 advantage thanks to an 8-7 victory for the Thunder No. 1 doubles team of Emme Lindquist and Abygale Ahn against the Vikings' duo of Annie Timm and Lily Schoeck.

Augustana tied the match score at 2-2 when the Vikings' Michaela Magee earned a 6-1, 6-3 win against Dibble at No. 3 singles. Streller earned a win at No. 4 singles as Wheaton regained the lead with a 3-2 edge. Streller defeated Hanulikova 6-4, 6-3 in their singles match. Hoogerheide was a 7-5, 6-2 victor for Wheaton in her match against Oda at No. 5 singles.Hoogerheide's win extended Wheaton's lead to 4-2.

Caroline Park's victory at No. 6 singles was Wheaton's fifth victory of the afternoon to secure the win for the guests. Park defeated Majewski 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 to get the win that gave Wheaton the match victory.

Schoeck defeated Ahn 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 in their match at No. 2 singles. Lindquist closed out the day with a victory at No. 1 singles. She defeated Timm 7-6, 6-7, 10-6 for the win.

Wheaton returns to CCIW play on Friday, April 9 at North Central. Friday's match against the Cardinals is slated for a 3:30 p.m. start in Naperville.
