Track and field competes at Elmhurst Invitational and Drake Relays

Elmhurst, Ill. – The majority of the Thunder athletes on Wheaton's track & field teams competed at the Elmhurst Invitational on Friday evening. A few select members of the Thunder women's team are at the Drake Relays this weekend.

ELMHURST INVITATIONAL 
In the men's meet, Wheaton athletes won four events on the day. The 4x400-meter relay team of Peter Van Os, Robert Smith, Jameson Logan and Elliot Kim took first place with a time of 3:25.19. Jediah Giller won the 400-meter hurdles, clocking in at 58.94-seconds. Robert Smith placed first in the discus throw with a toss of 39.75-meters, and also earned a second-place finish in the javelin, throwing 44.43-meters. David Bradley won the pole vault, clearing a height of 4.35-meters.
 
Also in the pole vault competition, Ethan Harstead and Peter Bradley tied for second place, both vaulting 4.10-meters. Abram Erickson placed second in the high jump, clearing 1.80-meters, and Don Crowder placed third, also clearing 1.80-meters. Daniel Wetlessen was second in the discus, throwing 36.62-meters.
 
Two Thunder athletes placed in the 110-meter hurdles: Ben Jackson took second with a time of 15.09-seconds and Isaiah Clausen placed third, crossing the line at 15.92-seconds. Elliot Kim finished second in the 800-meter at 1:58.46 and Nico Bradley placed third in the 200-meters with a time of 23.02-meters.
 
Ally LyleIn the women's meet, Ally Lyle (PICTURED LEFT) won the 800-meter run, finishing with a time of 2:21.88. Brianna Hawthorne finished just behind Lyle, taking third place in the race, and running 2:24.53. The 4x400-meter relay team of Faith Gilbert, Audrey Coyle, Emma Fisler and Alyssa Milligan placed first in the event with a time of 4:13.89. Susannah Bennett took third in the 1500-meter run with a time of 5:04.91.
 
Wheaton also fared well in the field events. Anna Cressman placed second in the shot put, throwing 11.97-meters. Heidi Considine was third in the shot put with a toss of 11.36-meters and second in the discus with a throw of 27.72-meters. Abi Gum was second in the javelin, throwing 31.17-meters.

DRAKE RELAYS
Senior Favor Ezewuzie competed in the prelims of the women's 100-meter dash and women's 100-meter hurdles on Friday. The Thunder women's 4X100-meter relay team also participated in the prelims of that event at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.

Ezewuzie won the second of three heats of the college women's 100-meter dash with a time of 12.53-seconds. Her time was third-fastest of the 21 competitors in Friday's finals. She will compete in the finals of the event on Saturday at 10:03 a.m.

Ezewuzie posted the fifth-fastest time of the 19 participants in the college women's 100-meter hurdles with an effort of 15.23-seconds. She will run in the finals of the event on Saturday at 9:31 a.m.

The Thunder women's 4X100-meter relay team of Sydney Jones, Abi Gum, Amy Keane and Ezewuzie recorded a time of 49.04 in their heat of the event on Friday. The quartet's time was 13th of the 26 teams in the event. 

The Thunder track and field teams will return home on Friday, April 30 for the Don Church Twilight Meet (MEET SCHEDULE).
