Gist's two-hitter highlights a doubleheader split for the Thunder softball team at Carroll

Waukesha, Wis. – The Thunder softball team visited Carroll University (13-11, 9-7 CCIW) on Thursday afternoon for a CCIW doubleheader with the Pioneers. Carroll won the opener 3-0 and Wheaton won the second game 3-0. Wheaton is now 10-11 on the season, including a 7-8 record in conference play. The Thunder will host Millikin tomorrow afternoon at Ruth Leedy Field. Friday's twinbill is slated to begin at 2:00 p.m.

Wheaton earned a 3-0 victory in the second game as Emilie Gist tossed a two-hitter for the Thunder. The Thunder scored three runs, on five hits, with one error and Carroll was held scoreless, with two hits, with one error.

Gist tossed a complete game, with seven innings in the circle. She held the Pioneers to just two hits as she struck out six Carroll batters.

Ashley Carter and Sarah Major each hit doubles for the Thunder. Gist, Melissa Meiners and Estelle Rios each tallied a single for the guests.

Wheaton got on the scoreboard with three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Sarah Major hit a one-out double and Estelle Rios hit a RBI single in the following at bat to give Wheaton a 1-0 lead. Major scored on a ground out by Sydney Heinrich. Two at bats later, Rios stole home on a double steal to extend the Thunder lead to 3-0. Wheaton's lead held up for the remainder of the game as the Thunder earned the win.

Carroll picked up a 3-0 victory in game one as the Pioneers scored three hits, on seven runs, with no errors and Wheaton tallied no runs, on two hits, with two errors. Thunder starting pitcher Alese Antonello (1-3) allowed three runs, including two earned runs in six innings of work. She scattered seven hits, with two strikeouts and three walks. Ashley Carter hit a double for the Thunder and Emilie Gist tallied a single.
