Milwaukee, Wis. -- The Wheaton men's and women's swimming teams traveled north on Friday for a date with a Division I opponent, the Panthers of University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The final team scores from the event saw the men's team fall, 127-73, and the Wheaton women lose, 160-44.
On the men's side,
Dawson Bremner had a successful solo outing, taking first place in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 52.19. He also finished second in the 200 yard freestyle, posting a time of 1:47.60, less than a full second behind the Panther swimmer who claimed first. Additionally, Bremner helped the Thunder win the 200 yard freestyle relay event, along with teammates
Jacob Lippiatt,
Mason Hodge, and
Ben Griffith, who swam the decisive anchor leg.Â
Anthony Fitzgerald continued his impressive start to the 2021-22 campaign by capturing top honors in the 100 yard breaststroke for the second time in as many meets, coming in with a time of 58.31, making him the only swimmer to finish the race in less than a minute. Fitzgerald,

AJ Staiti, and Lippiatt teamed up to come in second in the 200 yard medley competition, finishing only .41 seconds behind the victorious Milwaukee quartet.
Jacob Lippiatt also finished second in the seven-swimmer 50 yard freestyle with a time of 22.35, just .23 seconds ahead of Staiti in third place.

For the Wheaton women's team, two freshman swimmers led the way on the evening. Katie Yonan won the 1000 yard freestyle event with a total time of 11:13.05 to claim her first solo victory as a Thunder swimmer. Rachel Clancy took second place in the 100 yard breaststroke race, finishing less than a second behind Milwaukee's winner with a time of 1:09.17. The two aforementioned swimmers also came in third in the 200 yard freestyle relay alongside teammates Alex McKeaney and Carolyn Bubar.
Next up for both Wheaton squads is their home opener against Calvin on Saturday, November 13th. The dual meet is scheduled to begin at noon in Jonathan Lederhouse Natatorium.Â
