Cade Alioth named the CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week in men's basketball

Wheaton, Ill. - Wheaton College senior Cade Alioth has been named the CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week in men's basketball, helping lead Wheaton to a pair of non-conference wins last week. The recognition marks Alioth's first career selection for the CCIW's weekly award.

Alioth, a senior forward for the Thunder, Alioth averaged a double-double last week in a pair of wins for the sixth-ranked Thunder. He tallied his Division III-leading fifth 'double-double' of the season on Saturday with 17 points and 16 rebounds in a 66-62 victory against Ripon. Wheaton trailed Ripon 62-61 with 50-seconds remaining in regulation when Alioth made a three-pointer to put the Thunder up 64-62, a lead Wheaton would not relinquish. The senior shot 61.5% (8-for-13) from the field against the Red Hawks, and added a blocked shot and a steal. Alioth also had a 'double-double' last Tuesday in Wheaton's 77-67 victory at University of Chicago, with 19 points and 14 rebounds. He shot 63.6% (7-of-11) from the field against the Maroons, with a blocked shot and a steal.

In addition to leading Division III in 'double-doubles' this season, Alioth is ranked seventh in the nation in rebounds per game (13.3 RPG). He leads the CCIW in field goal percentage, shooting 62.7% (37of-59) from the floor.

Wheaton is ranked fifth in the first D3hoops.com Top-25 poll of the 2021-22 regular season. The Thunder open conference play on Wednesday night at Carthage College. Wheaton and the Firebirds are scheduled to tipoff at 7:00 p.m. in Kenosha.
