Wheaton Swimming opens season with dual meet in Chicago

Anthony Fitzgerald and Priscilla Min had strong performances on Saturday
Chicago, Ill. -- The Wheaton men's and women's swimming teams began their 2021-22 seasons on Saturday afternoon with a dual meet against the University of Chicago. The women's team fell to the fifth-ranked Maroons by a total score of 236-55, while the men's squad lost 238-56.

Priscilla Min led the way for the Thunder women on Day 1, placing first in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:26.59, and the senior also finished second in the 200 yard IM and the 100 yard breaststroke events, with times of 2:14.34 and 1:10.19, respectively. Two freshman swimmers got their Wheaton careers off to positive starts on Saturday, as Rachel Clancy placed third in the 100 yard breaststroke after securing a time of 1:11.27, and Lulu Franke finished third in the 200 yard breaststroke, posting a 2:34.60 time mark.

On the men's side, Anthony Fitzgerald had the standout performance, as the sophomore took the 100 yard breaststroke event with a time of 58.27. Additionally, Fitzgerald won the 200 yard breaststroke at a 2:09.12 clip. Ben Griffith placed fourth in the former event, claiming a finishing time of 1:00.04. Dawson Bremner was the highest Wheaton finisher in the 200 yard butterfly competition, boasting a 2:00.30 mark.

Next up for the two teams is a trip to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee for another dual meet on Friday, November 5th.
