Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton Thunder mens' basketball team earned a 67-58 victory at home against Millikin on Saturday afternoon. Wheaton (3-0 CCIW) improves to 3-0 on the season, while Millikin is 0-3 on the year (0-3 CCIW). The Thunder return to action on Tuesday night at North Park with a 7:00 p.m. tipoff against the Vikings.
Nyameye Adom led the Thunder with 20 points, adding four rebounds, and three assists.
Luke Anthony scored 14 points with three assists. Anthony made a team-high four three-pointers.
Cade Alioth (PICTURED LEFT) tallied his sixth career "double-double" with 12 points and a season-high 13 rebounds to go with three assists.
Eli Considine scored eight points and
Tyson Cruickshank added seven points.
The Thunder shot 43.1% (22-of-51) from the field today, including 30% (6-for-20) behind the three-point arc. Millikin tallied a 37.5% (21-of-56) field goal percentage, including 38.5% (10-of-26) from three-point range. Wheaton shot 73.9% (12-for-23) at the free throw line and the Big Blue had a 54.5% (6-for-11) effort behind the arc. Each team collected 35 rebounds in the game with a 12-9 edge on the offensive glass for Millikin.
Millikin jumped out to an early 11-point lead at 18-7 with 12:10 remaining in the first half. The Big Blue led 20-9 with 11:30 left in the opening half when
Andrew Williams made a basket to spark a 23-2 run for the Thunder. The impressive Wheaton surge was capped off by an Anthony three-pointer to give the hosts a 32-22 lead with 4:25 left before halftime. Wheaton led the Big Blue 34-28 at the halftime intermission.
Millkin battled the Thunder in the second half. However, the guests never got closer than a four-point deficit when Wheaton led 50-46 with 8:27 left in the game. At this point in the game, Adom scored eight-consecutive points to extend Wheaton's lead to 58-46 with 5:40 remaining in the contest. Wheaton held its lead for the final five minutes to earn the win.
Calvin Fisher led Millikin with 14 points, 11 rebounds and five assists. Jake Hampton scored 13 points with four assists off the Big Blue bench. Demarcus Bond tallied 12 points for the guests.
