Jesse Scott has announced the appointment of
Mikey Swider as a defensive assistant coach for the Thunder defensive line.
Swider comes to the Thunder football program from Wheaton Academy High School. He joined the football coaching staff Wheaton Academy in 2016, serving as linebackers coach, strength coach and defensive coordinator in his time there. He also served as an assistant wrestling coach for the Warriors from 2017-19 and was the head wrestling coach in the 2019-20 season. Swider also held posts as an assistant athletic director (2018-20) and FCA Director (2018-20).
A graduate of Wheaton, Swider earned his Bachelor's Degree in Communication in May of 2017. He played four seasons at linebacker for the Thunder football team, serving as a starter in his junior and senior seasons. He earned First Team All-CCIW recognition in both 2014 and 2015. As a junior in 2014 he was named to the D3football.com All-North Region Team and the following year he was a First Team All-Region selection by D3football.com.
A two-sport standout at Wheaton, Swider was a three-year letterwinner for the Thunder wrestling team. He was a NCAA Division III All-American at the 197-pound weight class in 2016 and twice competed at the Division III Championships on the mat. Swider won CCIW Titles at 197-pounds in 2015 and 2016.

Mikey Swider to the Wheaton Football staff. Obviously, anyone familiar with our program will quickly recognize his last name and the legacy he continues here. More importantly, Mikey's passion for Wheaton and Wheaton Football are contagious and he will do a great job developing our players – not only on the field, but also in their character formation and spiritual development.
