Wheaton, Ill. – Wheaton College head women's basketball coach
Kent Madsen has announced the addition of four freshman that have submitted their deposit to attend Wheaton College, with the intent to play for the Thunder women's basketball team beginning with the 2020-21 season.
Coach Madsen says of the group, "We are excited to have these four players join our program for the upcoming season. Rachel Brady, Ana Mooney, Lily Schwen, and Hannah Turner are players that we believe will help us on the court and are a great fit for Wheaton College. It is always exciting to bring in players from all over the country because it demonstrates the national attraction of Wheaton."
The four newcomers for 2020-21 are:
Rachel Brady (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North High School) is a 5'10" guard who played on a Wheaton North High School team that won three regional championships in basketball during her high school career. Brady was a three-year varsity player in both basketball and soccer and anchored each team as a captain in her senior year. Prioritizing her time in the classroom, Brady earned Academic All-Conference honors in both basketball and soccer for the past three years, and she graduated in the top five percent of her graduating class with a 4.0 grade point average. She was a member of the National Honors Society, the Spanish Honors Society and Math Honors Society. To cap off her student-athlete experience, she won the Bill Neibch Leadership Award, which is an award given to one female and one male athlete from the entire student body.
Anastasia Mooney (Holt, Mich./Holt High School) is a 5'6" guard who helped lead Holt to a 20-4 record in her senior season, a second-place finish in the CAAC Blue Conference, a Class A District Championship and a spot in the Regional finals before the season ended early. As a three-sport varsity athlete, Mooney earned ten varsity letters as a three-year varsity basketball player and two-year captain in basketball, a four-year varsity cross country competitor and three-year captain in cross country, and a three-year varsity soccer player. Holt High School named Mooney Female Athlete of the Year as a senior. She graduated in the top 10 of her graduating class of 360 students with a 4.0 grade point average, earned twelve All-Conference Academic awards and was named the Capital Area Activities Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Lily Schwen (Victoria, Minn./Southwest Christian High School) is a 5'8" guard who was a four-year varsity starter, two-year captain, two-year MVP and two-year All-Conference recipient. Schwen holds Southwest Christian basketball records for career assists with 486 career assists and for most assists in one game with 14. During her senior season, Schwen led her team in scoring, assists and steals with 13.7 points per game, 6.3 assists per game and 3.2 steals per game. Schwen's senior year assist total ranked fourth in the state of Minnesota in the past season. Schwen played varsity tennis for three years and captained the team for a year while picking up All-Conference Honorable Mention. Academically, Schwen achieved Academic All-Conference honors, was a National Honors Society member, was her class' salutatorian and was named a National Merit Commended Scholar.
Hannah Turner (Kennedale, Texas/Grace Preparatory Academy) is a 5'4" guard who joins the Thunder after leading her squad as a captain in her senior season to its first District Championship in thirteen years and second overall trip to the Sweet Sixteen at Grace Preparatory Academy. Earning All-District four straight years in high school and All-State in her senior year, Turner averaged 12 points, 5 steals, 4 rebounds and 1 block during her high school career. Turner was named to six different All-Tournament teams, was honored as her team's Defensive MVP for three straight seasons, received the Leadership Award in two consecutive seasons and was a two-year captain. As a dedicated student-athlete, Turner earned Academic All-State honors in both her junior and senior years.
