Men's basketball tops Millikin 68-53 at home

Wheaton, Ill. - The Wheaton men's basketball team defeated Millikin 68-53 Wednesday night in King Arena. Tonight's victory gives the Thunder a sweep in the season series against Millikin (4-20, 1-14 CCIW). Wheaton improves to 15-9 overall and 9-6 in CCIW play. 

Luke Anthony led the Thunder with 16 points tonight, making four three-pointers. Nyameye Adom scored 15 points with seven assists and six rebounds. Cade Alioth was 7-of-10 from the field as he scored 15 points with eight rebounds. Tyson Cruickshank scored 11 points with eight rebounds and three assists. Anajuwon Spencer scored eight points with seven rebounds and two steals.

Wheaton posted a 46.3% (25-of-54) field goal percentange tonight, including 39.1% (9-of-23) from three-point range. Millikin shot 32.9% (23-of-70) from the field, including 18.2% (4-of-22) behind the three point arc. Wheaton shot 56.3% (9-of-16) at the free throw line and Millikin had a 50% (3-of-6) effort at the charity stripe. The Big Blue owned a 40-38 rebounding advantage tonight, including a 20-10 edge on the offensive glass.

Millikin scored the first seven points tonight as the Big Blue led early in the contest. The guests led 16-9 with 10:14 remaining in the first half when Cade Alioth made a layup to ignite a 14-2 scoring run for the Thunder. The run gave Wheaton a 23-18 lead with 3:00 left in the opening half. Alioth recorded six points in the scoring run and Spencer scored five as the duo combined to score all 11 of Wheaton's 14 points in the run that lasted 7:15. Wheaton maintained a six-point lead at 30-24 at halftime.

Spencer made a three-pointer in the opening minute of the second half as Wheaton scored nine unanswered points to open the half. The 9-0 run extended Wheaton's lead to 39-24 with with 17:27 remaining in the game. The Thunder held onto a double-digit lead to the majority of the second half en route to the 68-53 victory.

Zach Fisher led Millikin with a game-high 20 points. Korbin Farmer scored nine points with seven rebounds and Jake Hampton added eight points with four assists.

Wheaton hosts North Central Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. in the regular season finale.
