Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton wrestling team defeated Elmhurst College 31-16 in a dual meet on Saturday afternoon, winning seven of the 10 weight classes. Both teams registered two wins by fall in the match.
The opening rounds were back and forth with the Thunder and Bluejays trading victories over the first six bouts.
Anthony Zamora opened the match with a 15-6 major decision at 125 pounds and
Ethan Harsted followed two matches later with a 22-6 technical victory at 141 pounds.
Caele Manley won an 11-3 major decision with a late takedown and
Hunter Harrison won a 2-0 decision at 174 pounds.
With the match tied at 16 heading into the bout at 184 pounds,
Isaac Odell gave Wheaton the lead with a pin in 1:43 and
Natan Jara followed with a pin at 2:00 at 197. Grand Miller then closed out the match with a 13-6 victory at 285.
Wheaton will next be in action on Friday, January 31, when the Thunder host the Pete Willison Wheaton Invitational in King Arena beginning at 11 am.
