Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

First minute marker holds up for sixth-ranked Thunder in shutout win over UW-La Crosse

Wheaton, Ill. – Ninety minutes of action was decided in the first 53 seconds as the sixth-ranked Thunder women's soccer team recorded its second-straight shutout with a 1-0 victory over UW-La Crosse. Sophia Lindquist's first collegiate goal came in the first minute, moving Wheaton to 6-0 on the season while dropping the Eagles to 4-3. Wheaton will embark on a five-game road swing, starting with a Tuesday night game at WashU in a rematch of last season's National Quarterfinal match.

Despite the low scoring total, Wheaton continuously pressured the UW-La Crosse defense, attempting to 28 shots to just five by the Eagles and putting 13 on goal. Quinn Shannon made 12 saves and allowed just the one goal for the Eagles. Lauren Ketchum made four saves in a shutout effort for the Thunder.

After a brief UW-La Crosse push to start the game, Wheaton was able to take over possession with Sara Bakke beating a defender down the right before sending ball into the box. Bakke's pass found Sophia Lindquist in stride (VIDEO) for a one-time right-footed shot that found the net, putting Wheaton ahead just 53 seconds into the match.

Wheaton continued to pepper the goal throughout the first half, taking a 17-2 edge in shots into the halftime break. An 11-3 second half shot advantage forced Shannon into a busy half with her best moment coming in the 85th minute on a full extension parry of a Aeva Graber blast from the top of the box, leading to one of Wheaton's nine corner kick attempts of the night.

Tuesday's match at WashU will kick off a five-game road trip for the Thunder that will feature four matches against teams that qualified for last season's NCAA Tournament as well as Wheaton's CCIW opener at Elmhurst.
