Wheaton, Ill. - Although the Thunder fell to Milwaukee, men's team (97-103) and women's team (82-115), Wheaton's swimming made big strides in fine-tuning the details that showed great results.
Cleveland Speece (Sr.) and
Kael Gannon (Fr.) closed in a tight 2-3 placement in the 50 freestyle, Speece second (22.68) and Gannon third (22.69). Gannon went on to place second in the 100 butterfly (55.05), Joel Kim (Sr.) a close third (55.14).
Jacob Lippiatt (So.) and Sam Price (Sr.) also placed 2-3 in the 100 freestyle, Lippiatt second (49.41) and Price third (52.46).
Abe Plimpton (Fr.) made two top three finishes--third in the 200 freestyle (1:46.83) and second in the 500 freestyle (4:58.35) while
Dawson Bremner (Fr.) touched third with a time of 5:00.19. Bremner then went on to finish second in the 400 IM with a time of 4:24.25.
Alex Murphee (Fr.) out-touched Milwaukee by a half of a second to finish third in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:52.48.
Will Rinne (Jr.) continued to dominate the water as he had two first place finishes both in the 100 backstroke (52.59) and 100 breaststroke (59.16); Ben Griffith (So.) and
Ethan Kile (So.) placed second and third in the 100 breaststroke, creating a 1-2-3 finish altogether with Rinne in the lead.
Thunder men's A freestyle relay finished second (Lippiatt, Speece, Gannon, Kimel: 1:28.11) while the B relay (McDaniel, Plimpton, Murphee, Price: 1:34.20) finished third. The A 200 medley relay finished second (Griffith, Kile, Bremner, Rinne: 1:37.28) while the B relay finished third (Schofield, Wilkerson, Smith, Kim: 1:39.76).
