Women's basketball tallies first road victory with a 66-54 win at Dominican

River Forest, Ill. - The Thunder women's basketball team, ranked 15th in the latest D3hoops.com and 18th in the latest WBCA Top 25 poll, earned its first win away from King Arena with a 66-54 victory at Dominican University. With the win, Wheaton improves to 5-1 on the season while handing the Stars their first loss of the season, dropping Dominican to 4-1 overall. Wheaton will head west later this week to participate in the UC-Santa Cruz Thankgiving Tournament. The Thunder will face the UC-Santa Cruz Banana Slugs on Friday  at 2 pm and will wrap up the weekend on Saturday with a 5 pm tipoff against Birmingham Southern College.

Wheaton outrebounded the Stars 50-38 including 18 offensive rebounds. The Thunder assisted on 19 of their 25 made field goals on the night and shot 38.5% from the field including a season-best 41.2% (7-17) from beyond the arc. The Thunder held Dominican to 31.9% from the field and 37.5% from the three-point line while limiting the Stars to just five free throw attempts.

The Thunder never trailed on Tuesday night, scoring the first four points and jumping out to a 13-7 lead midway through the first quarter. Wheaton held the Stars scoreless over the final 4:07 of the quarter as the Thunder finished the quarter on an 8-0 run to lead 21-10 at the end of the quarter. The Wheaton lead bounced back and forth between single and double figures for most of the second quarter until Sydney Balan drilled a three-pointer with just four seconds left in the half to cut the halftime lead to 38-30.

Wheaton opened the second half on a 10-0 run with five points coming from Jill Berg on the run. After Dominican scored its first points of the second half more than five minutes into the third quarter, Wheaton was able to push the lead to a game-high 19 points and took a 56-40 lead into the fourth quarter when Kirsten Madsen beat the buzzer with a three-pointer. Dominican was able to cut the lead to ten in the fourth quarter but got no closer as Wheaton closed a 66-54 victory.

Hannah Williams led the Thunder with 13 points and was joined in double figures by Bonnie Zeller with 11 points. Jill Berg tallied double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds to go along with six blocks and three assists. Hannah Frazier finished with eight points and seven rebounds and Jordan Myroth had four points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists.
