Grand Rapids, Mic. - The Thunder swim team had a close-matched dual meet against Calvin College this Saturday, November 2nd, with the Knights outscoring Wheaton's men's team 182 to 111 and women's team 195 to 89. Both the men's and women's team proved their depth by making top three finishes in 26 out of the 28 swim events.
Ashley Bowen and
Emily Hahn opened the first individual event with a solid 1-2 placement in the 1000 freestyle, Bowen first with a time of 11:24.00 and Hahn second, earning a time of 11:28.39. Hahn also placed 3rd in the 200 backstroke, touching with a 2:17.25.
Maggie Franke placed second in the 200 freestyle, breaking two minutes with a 1:59.19; Franke also placed second in the 50 freestyle, swimming a 25.31.
Abby Rutledge swam into first place both in the 200 butterfly (2:14.92) and the 500 freestyle (5:27.06).
Priscilla Min placed first in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:31.63 while
Gentry Musgrove earned third place in the 100 butterfly (1:02.43). Katy Coley snatched third both in the 100 backstroke (1:05.07) and 100 freestyle (56.03).
Kiki Rogers made her appearance in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.93), placing 3rd.
In both the 200 medley relay (Franke, Coley, Rutledge, and McKeaney: 3:45.50) and the 400 freestyle relay (Coley, Rogers, Rutledge, and Franke: 1:53.67), the women's team placed second.
Micah Kimel swam third in the 200 freestyle (1:49.53). Abe Plimpton placed third in the 100 backstroke (56.99) while placing first in the 500 freestyle (4:56.97). Will Rinne and Ethan Kile placed an impressive 1-2 in the 100 breaststroke, Rinne first with a 58.36 and Kile a close second with a 58.91. Rinne also placed first in the 100 freestyle (47.24) while Kile placed second in the 200 backstroke (2:02.50).
Dawson Bremner placed first in the 200 butterfly, earning a time of 1:57.76; Bremner placed second in the 200 IM with a 2:01.06. Jacob Lippiatt placed third in the 50 freestyle with a timeof 22.19. Ben Griffith placed first in the 200 breastroke (2:14.56), Tice Wilkerson placing third (2:26.48).
The men's team placed second in the 200 medley relay (Griffith, Kile, Kimel, and Rinne: 1:38.18) and the 400 freestyle relay (Griffith, Kile, Bremner, and Rinne: 3:12.90), an exciting second and a half time difference between Calvin.
Thunder will host UW-Milwaukee November 8th at 4:30.
