Wheaton swimming falls to Chicago for first home dual meet

Wheaton, Ill. - The Thunder swim teams opened their first home dual meet against University of Chicago at Lederhouse Natatorium. The men's team fell to Chicago with the total scores of 197-64 while the women's team lost 209-53. 

Maggie Franke led the Thunder to a strong start, finishing second in the 50 freestyle with the time of 24.80 while also claiming second place in the 100 freestyle with a time of 54.40, over two and a half seconds faster than University of Chicago's third place. Abby Rutledge placed third in the 200 freestyle with a solid time of 2:03.91 while Ashley Bowen made a strong presence, owning second place in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:25.15. Priscilla Min took third place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:12.00. Kiki Rogers swam her way into second place in the 200 breaststroke, earning her a time of 2:38.23.

Will Rinne had a successful outing as he finished first in two of his individual events, swimming a time of 21.42 in the 50 freestyle and 2:08.42 in the 200 breaststroke. Ben Griffith respectively placed third in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:00.47, just shy of breaking five minutes. Giffith also placed third in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 59.61. Gavin Patton earned his second place finish in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:32.76 while fellow teammate Alex Murphy followed, placing third in with a time of 11:05.28. 

The Thunder men's team wrapped up the meet touching third in the 400 freestyle relay, Ben Griffith starting off the relay accompanied by Micah Kimel, Cleveland Speece, and Will Rinne with a time of 3:13.42.
