Holland, Mich. – The ninth-ranked Wheaton Thunder women's soccer team defeated Hope College, 3-2 on Tuesday night. Wheaton improves to 9-1-1 on the season. Hope is now 1-3-5 this season.
The two teams played more than 30 minutes of scoreless soccer to open the match. Hope's Cassidy Broekhuizen netted a goal for the hosts at the 32:06 mark of the match to give Hope a 1-0 lead.
Thunder defender
Sarah Tomich scored for Wheaton just 1:08 later as her goal tied the match at 1-1. The contest remained tied at 1-1 at the halftime intermission. The Thunder out-shot the Flying Dutch 10-2, including a 6-1 advantage in shots on goal.
Hope's Erin Powers scored just 2:22 into the second half to give the hosts a 2-1 lead. Wheaton tied the match at 2-2 with a goal at the 59:19 mark of the match.

Aeva Graber near the sideline and Graber's long arcing shot landed in the top right corner of the net to tie the match at 2-2. Thunder freshman
Tori Seeland gave Wheaton a 3-2 lead when she headed the ball into the goal off an assist by
Sara Bakke at the 71:33 mark of the match. Wheaton held a 9-4 edge in shots in the second half, including a 4-2 Wheaton advantage in shots on goal.
Thunder goalkeeper
Lauren Ketchum made one save and allowed two goals in her 90 minutes of work in the Wheaton net. Hope netminder Jordanne Ellingboe stopped seven Wheaton shots and allowed three Wheaton goals in her 90 minutes of action.
Wheaton out-shot Hope 19-6 in the match, including a 10-3 edge for the Thunder in shots on goal. The Thunder had 10 corner kicks in the match and Hope was awarded three.
Wheaton returns to conference play on Friday afternoon when Illinois Wesleyan visits Joe Bean Stadium at 4:30 p.m.
