No. 22 Thunder football rolls to a 63-6 victory against Millikin

Wheaton, Ill. - The Wheaton Thunder football team rolled to a 63-6 victory at home on Saturday night against Millikin University (2-1, 1-1 CCIW). Wheaton led 42-6 at halftime and made three trips into the end zone in the second half for the convincing win. Wheaton improves to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

Wheaton registered a season-high 601 yards of offense as the Thunder passed for 405 yards with 196 rushing yards. Millikin had 310 yards of offense as the Big Blue passed for 163 yards with 147 rushing yards.

Thunder quarterback Curtis McWilliams completed 19 of his 23 passing attempts for 296 yards with four touchdown tosses. McWilliams' 82.6% completion percentage is the highest percentage by a Wheaton quarterback (with 10 or more passing attempts) in a game since Jordan Roberts completed 14 of his 15 passing attempts for 93.3% completion percentage in a Thunder win against North Park on November 16, 2013.

33373Jesse Furrow was 8-of-9 passing with 109 yards through the air, with two touchdown tosses. Jacob Cretin ran the ball 12 times for 130 yards, averaging 10.8 yards per carry, with one touchdown run. 

Phillip Nichols (PICTURED LEFT) led the Thunder receiving corps with eight receptions for 157 yards, with one touchdown catch. Carson Lien caught five passes, including two touchdown receptions, with 48 receiving yards. 

33372Patrick O'Connell and Eric Stevenson (PICTURED RIGHT) each registered seven total tackles to lead the Wheaton defense. Stevenson had a tackle for loss (-2 yards) and intercepted a Millikin pass (VIDEO). O'Connell tallied a team-high 1-1/2 tackles for loss (-3 yards) and Tyler Sigler had six total tackles with a forced fumble. Daniel Herber and Dmarte Arafiles each made five total tackles and Corey Kennedy made four tackles with a fumble recovery.

Adam Terrini and Lien (VIDEO) each had 11-yard touchdown catches in the first quarter and Will Smith (VIDEO)reached the end zone on an eight-yard touchdown run in the opening quarter as the Thunder led 21-0 at the end of the first quarter.

33369Nichols had a 55-yard touchdown catch (VIDEO) and Lien (VIDEO) reached the end zone on a 10-yard touchdown pass in the first two Thunder drives of the second quarter. Millikin quarterback Nicco Stepina scored on a three-yard touchdown run with 3:21 left in the second quarter as Millikin's first points made the Wheaton advantage 42-6. Cretin (PICTURED LEFT) scored on a 10-yard touchdown run (VIDEO) with 19-seconds left in the first half to give Wheaton a 42-6 halftime lead.

Jaelin Goldsmith (VIDEO) scored on a 21-yard touchdown to cap off the opening drive of the third quarter as he extended Wheaton's lead to 49-6.

Luke Van Dyke had a 16-yard touchdown reception (VIDEO) early in the fourth quarter and Christian Bolhius (VIDEO) scored on a 19-yard touchdown catch midway through the final quarter to account for the 63-6 final score.

The Thunder travels to North Central next Saturday night for the 100th football game between Wheaton and the Cardinals. Saturday's battle between nationally ranked teams kicks off at 7:00 p.m. in Naperville.
