Kenosha, Wis. - The Thunder men's tennis team secured a key CCIW victory on Thursday night with a 5-4 win at Carthage College. The win moved the Thunder to 7-10 overall and also kept the Thunder in a first place tie atop the CCIW standings with a 5-1 CCIW record. Wheaton will be back in action on Saturday morning with a 10 am match at Carroll University.
Wheaton won two of the three doubles matches with
Anderson Park and
Karl Wenzel winning at number two doubles 9-8 (7-2).
Josh Cheng and
Andrew Bristol earned a 9-7 victory at number three doubles.
The Thunder and Red Men split the six singles matches with Cheng earning a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Lukasz Jaworski at number three singles.
Karl Wenzel pulled out a tightly contested win over John Nykyforuk 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 at number four singles. Alex Winters knocked off Matt Krzewinski at number five singles 7-6 (7-3), 6-2.
