Baseball drops series finale to North Central

Carol Stream, Ill. - The Thunder baseball team dropped its fourth consecutive game on Thursday night, falling to North Central 14-2 in seven innings. Wheaton is now 13-14 overall and 4-8 in the CCIW. North Central improves to 15-10 overall and 10-1 in the CCIW. Wheaton will open a three-game series with North Park on Friday night in Chicago before returning to Lee Pfund Stadium for a doubleheader against the Vikings starting at 1 pm.

North Central's offense got rolling early, loading the bases with three singles in the top of the first inning. Caleb Selk was able to hold off the Cardinal attack with a strikeout to leave the bases loaded. However, North Central broke through for three runs in the top of the second to take their first lead of the game. Wheaton answered in the bottom of the second inning when Seth Meyers singled with two outs and then scored on Jacob Garrity's double to right field.

The Cardinals took control of the game in the top of the third inning with six runs and added another four runs in the top of the fourth to lead 13-1. Another run in the top of the fifth inning topped off the Cardinals' scoring to lead 14-1. Johnny Peltz roped a single to left field to score Nick Mailman in the bottom of the sixth inning to account for Wheaton's final run of the night.

The Cardinals plated 14 runs on 16 hits with no errors. Wheaton was limited to two runs on four hits with one defensive error.
