Rosemont, Ill. – The Elmhurst Bluejays hosted the Thunder softball team on Tuesday for a CCIW doubleheader at The Stadium at the Ballpark at Rosemont, home of the Chicago Bandits. Elmhurst won the opener 5-1 and the Bluejays concluded with a sweep by winning the second game 7-4.
Elmhurst won the opener 5-1 as the Bluejays scored five runs, on 12 hits, with one error and Wheaton tallied one run, on four hits, with one error.
Kendall Kehres worked all six innings in the circle for the Thunder. She allowed five runs, on 12 hits, with two walks.
Kelly Thornton hit a double for Wheaton as she was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored.

Ali Kent each hit a single for the guests.
Wheaton gained an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Thornton hit a one-out triple and scored two batters later on a RBI-single by
Melody Rodriguez. The Bluejays tied the game at 1-1 with a run in the bottom of the first inning.
Elmhurst gained a 2-1 lead as the Bluejays added a run in the bottom of the second inning. Elmhurst added another run in the bottom of the fourth and scored two more times in the bottom of the fifth to account for the 5-1 final score.
Elmhurst won the nightcap 7-4 as the Bluejays scored seven runs, on 12 hits, with one error and Wheaton registered four runs, on 11 hits with four errors. Thornton pitched all seven innings for Wheaton. She allowed seven runs, including six earned runs, on 12 hits.
Thornton was 2-for-3 with a double as she drove in a run and scored one run.
Ali Kent had a 2-for-3 effort at the plate and Ryan was 2-for-4 with a RBI as she contributed a double.

Elmhurst scored three runs in the top of the first inning and Wheaton scored once in the bottom of the first. Clark hit a leadoff single in the bottom of the first and then promptly stole second base. She scored in the next at bat on a RBI-double to right center field.
Elmhurst increased its lead to 5-1 with a pair of Bluejays' runs in the top of the fifth inning. Wheaton added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning when
Julia Arthur scored on a RBI ground out by Ryan. Elmhurst added a run in the top of the sixth inning and Wheaton cut the Bluejays' lead to 6-3 with a Thunder run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Elmhurst added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning to extend its lead to 7-3. Thornton led off the bottom of the seventh inning for the Thunder with a single to right field and she scored two batters later on a RBI-single by Rodriguez. Thornton's run accounted for the 7-4 final score.
Wheaton travels to North Central on Thursday for a 3:00 p.m. CCIW doubleheader in Naperville with the Cardinals.
