Wheaton, Ill. - The Thunder women's basketball team celebrated Senior Night on Saturday night with a convincing 67-30 victory over North Central. With the victory, Wheaton closes the regular season on a 15-game winning streak. Wheaton improves its record to 21-4 overall and 14-2 in the CCIW. North Central falls to 5-19 overall and 3-12 in the CCIW. Wheaton will await Tuesday's final CCIW matchups to determine its CCIW Tournament Semifinal opponent and the location of the upcoming CCIW Tournament.
Despite struggling to a 20% (5-25) clip from beyond the arc, Wheaton shot 43.9% (29-66) from the field and made four of its six free throw attempts. Wheaton held North Central to a 17.7% (10-60) shooting percentage and an even lower 9.7% (3-31) performance from the three-point line. The Cardinals shot 63.6% (7-11) at the free throw line. Wheaton dominated the rebounding battle 54-33.
Wheaton wasted no time separating itself from the Cardinals, opening up a quick 7-2 lead en route to an 18-4 advantage at the end of the first quarter. Both teams struggled from the field in the second frame, with both teams scoring in single figures as Wheaton led 27-12 at the halftime break.
The Thunder put the game at the start of the second half, starting the third quarter on a 12-0 run and extending that run to 17-2 en route to a 49-22 lead at the end of the third quarter. Wheaton held North Central to single digit scoring for the third time in the final quarter as Wheaton cemented its 67-30 victory.
Devin Kyler led the Thunder with an 11-point, 10-rebound double-double performance.
Hannah Frazier led all scorers with 12 points to go with six rebounds.
Kelly Lawson added 10 points and seven rebounds.
Jordan Myroth dished out a game-high seven assists.
