Thunder women's basketball picks up a 79-53 victory at Trinity Christian College

Palos Heights, Ill. – The Wheaton women's basketball team picked up a 79-53 victory at Trinity Christian College (2-10) on Wednesday night. Wheaton improves to 6-3 on the season with the non-conference win against the Trolls.

34598Thunder junior Hannah Frazier led all players with 26 points tonight. She added eight rebounds with three blocked shots. Hannah Williams (PICTURED LEFT) scored 16 points with three steals. Jill Berg came off the Wheaton bench to score nine points with eight rebounds and two steals. Jennifer Berg scored eight points with six rebounds. Devin Kyler grabbed seven rebounds.

Trinity Christian led 19-15 at the end of a sluggish first quarter. The Trolls led 33-23 with 3:350 left in the second quarter when Frazier's layup sparked a 13-2 Thunder scoring run that allowed for a 35-35 tie at the halftime intermission.

Wheaton scored the first 10 points of the third quarter to gain control of the contest. The Thunder run allowed the guests to lead 45-35 with 6:40 remaining in the third quarter. Wheaton's 10 unanswered points began with a Jennifer Berg layup and she stole the ball on the next possession to setup a Jordan Myroth layup. Wheaton led 54-46 at the end of the third quarter.

Wheaton maintained a double-digit lead for the majority of the fourth quarter. Wheaton's largest lead of the game was the 26-point bulge in the 79-53 final score.

The Thunder posted a 42.3% (30-of-71) field goal percentage, including 19% (4-for-21) from three-point range. The Trolls shot 31.4% (16-of-51) from the floor, including 34.8% (8-of-23) behind the three-point arc. Wheaton had a 78.9% (15-of-19) effort at the free throw line tonight and Trinity Christian shot 72.2% (13-of-18) at the charity stripe. Wheaton out-rebounded the Trolls 46-34 tonight, including an 18-9 edge on the offensive glass. Wheaton's size played a factor tonight as the Thunder out-scored the hosts 52-16 in the paint and the guests' edge on the offensive glass led to a 23-4 Wheaton edge in second chance points.

Kyla Pitts led Trinity Christian with 13 points and four steals. Breanna Toppen added 12 points for the Trolls.

Wheaton returns to conference play Saturday at 5:00 p.m. when the Thunder hosts North Central in King Arena.
