Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's soccer bows out of the NCAA Tournament with a 2-1 loss at #1-ranked WashU

St. Louis, Mo. - The Thunder women's soccer team saw its run through the NCAA Tournament come to an end on Saturday night with a 2-1 loss at #1-ranked Washington University-St. Louis. In a rematch of a regular season match at Joe Bean Stadium, Wheaton saw its season come to an end with a similar 2-1 result, leaving the Thunder with a final record of 19-4-1. WashU moves on to the Final Four with a record of 21-0.

WashU used a dominant first half to post a 17-5 shot advantage with an 11-3 edge in shots on goal. Wheaton's Lauren Ketchum made a season-high nine saves and allowed two goals. Emma Greenfield made two saves and allowed one goal for the Bears. The goal allowed was just the fifth of the year by the Bears.

WashU struck first after a strong defensive stretch from the Thunder when Jess Shapiro finished a give and go in the box in the 35th minute, giving the Bears a 1-0 halftime lead.

Defenses controlled most of the second half with neither team piecing together many scoring opportunities. As she did in their first matchup, Isabelle Oliver came through with the equalizer for the Thunder, putting a shot off the post and into net to tie the score at the 82:47 mark.

Just under four minutes later, a handball in the box call against the Thunder gave WashU a penalty kick, which was converted by Caroline Dempsey to punch the Bears' ticket to the Final Four with a 2-1 victory.
