Thunder wrestling falls in a dual at Elmhurst, 30-22

Jonavan Huggins earned a win in the final seconds of his match at 165-pounds
Elmhurst, Ill. - The Thunder wrestling team traveled to Elmhurst College on Tuesday for the first dual meet of the 2018-19 season for the Thunder. The Bluejays topped the Thunder 30-22 in the matchup.

Wheaton senior Carlos Fuentez opened up the match with a pin in the final minute of his matchup at 125-pounds. Fuentez pinned Elmhurst's Antoine Bess at the 6:43 mark of the match. The Bluejays followed with victories at 133-pounds, 141-pounds, 149-pounds and 157-pounds.

Wheaton's second victory of the night was another late pin. Jonavan Huggins pinned Elmhurst's Howie Olson with five seconds remaining in their matchup at 165-pounds. Elmhurst won the matchup that followed at 174-pounds.

Isaac O'Dell won by forfeit at 184-pounds and Elmhurst won at 197-pounds. Thunder freshman Darien Kaufman earned a convincing win at 285-pounds. Kaufman defeated Elmhurst's Karim Fuentes by a 9-1 major decision in the final matchup of the evening.

Wheaton returns to action on Saturday morning at the Concordia (Wis.) Open in Mequon, Wisconsin.

157-pounds: Keone Derain (Elmhurst) def. Caele Manley (Wheaton) by major decision 9-1
165-pounds: Jonavan Huggins (Wheaton) pinned Howie Olson in 6:55
174-pounds: Nevin Brittain (Elmhurst) def. Jacob Murrie (Wheaton) 4-2.
184-pounds: Isaac Odell (Wheaton) received forfeit
197-pounds: Mark Miller (Elmhurst) pinned Max Gierke (Wheaton) in 2:02
285-pounds: Darien Kaufmann (Wheaton) def. Karim Fuentes (Elmhurst) by major decision 9-1
