Wheaton, Ill. - The Thunder men's and women's swim team hosted their first event of the season at Lederhouse Natatorium on Saturday morning, hosting the Calvin College Knights for a dual meet. The Knights were victorious on both fronts, winning the men's meet 148-114 and the women's meet 172-90.
The Thunder won seven individual events and on relay in the meet with the men's 400-yard freestyle relay team of Chris Szymczak, Christian Cameron, Stephen Larson, and Daniel Deysher winning the event with a time of 3:10.61, just over half a second ahead of Calvin's runner-up finish.
Ben Griffith was Wheaton's only multi-event winner. The freshman won the 200-yard butterly in 1:57.30, dusting the field by over three seconds. He also won the 200-yard individual medley in 1:57.34, 1.65 seconds ahead of the field.
Ethan Kile won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:17.22, a winning margin of over two seconds. Daniel Deysher won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:47.34 to win by 1.66 seconds. Christian Cameron was the fastest to the wall in a thrilling 50-yard freestyle, finishing in 21.58 seconds, just .03 seconds ahead of Noah Holstege of Calvin and just .13 seconds ahead of third-place.
Michaela Sandeno won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09.40 as Wheaton swept the breaststroke events.
Priscilla Min won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:29.44.
Brooke Barnes won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.24 seconds.
Wheaton will next be in action on Friday, November 16, when the Thunder participate in the University of Chicago Fall Classic.
