Thunder volleyball drops two at the UW-Whitewater Dig Panici Classic

GAME STATS 1 | GAME STATS 2 Whitewater, Wis. – The Wheaton volleyball team (10-11) traveled to the campus of UW-Whitewater on Friday to participate in the Dig Panici Classic. UW-La Crosse defeated the Thunder 3-1 (22-25, 26-24, 25-19, 25-16) in Wheaton's opening match of the afternoon. St. Thomas (Minn.) topped the Thunder 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 28-26) in the final Thunder match.

Wheaton's Ellie Brown had 12 kills in the match against UW-La Crosse. Brown posted a .400 attack percentage with 12 kills and just two errors on 25 swings. Madeline Moore added 12 kills for the Thunder. Colleen Smith had 10 kills and two errors on 28 attempts for a .286 attack percentage.

Alecia Funk had a team-high 22 assists in the match against the Eagles, with freshman Mia Staub adding 17 assists. Senior Jess Bosse led Wheaton with 22 digs, Colleen Smith added 13 digs and Cassie Swiderek tallied 10 digs. Sadie Elsenbroek and Audrey Gerze each had three total blocks.

Moore led the Thunder with 11 kills in the match against St. Thomas. Brown, Elsenbroek, Colleen Smith and Deborah Smith each had five kills. Funk recorded 15 assists and Staub tallied 11 assists. Elsenbroek and Gerze each had two service aces. Bosse had a team-high 16 digs in the matchup against the Tommies and Brown registered a team-high seven total blocks in the match.

Wheaton returns home next Saturday for a tri-match against Millikin and Dubuque. Wheaton faces Millikin at noon next Saturday with a match against Dubuque at 4:00 p.m.
