Wheaton, Ill.
- Playing the third of a four-match stretch of home games, the Thunder men's soccer team earned its third straight victory on Wednesday night with a 2-0 victory over Carroll University. The win moves Wheaton to 3-2 against CCIW opponents and 8-4-1 overall. The loss drops the Pioneers to 0-11-2 overall and 0-4 in conference play. Wheaton will wrap up its four-match home stand next Wednesday, October 17, when the Thunder host Millikin University.

The Thunder did their scoring damage in the first half behind an 8-4 advantage in shots en route to a 15-10 final shot total. Hasten Biddlecome made two saves in a shutout effort marking his third shutout of the year. Peter Villafuerte made two saves and allowed two goals in the first half for th Pioneers. Connor Thompson made two saves in the second half for the visitors.

As has been the trend during Wheaton's home stand, the Thunder found an early goal to take the lead. Ryan Melgar's strike from the top of the box accounted for his second goal of the season (VIDEO). Peter Whallon set up the game-winning goal in the 21st minute with his first assist of the season. Melgar's goal put an end to Carroll's early push that saw the Pioneers fire all four of its shots in the opening 20 minutes of action.

Carrying the momentum from Melgar's tally, the Thunder pushed searching for more until Chad Miller tallied his first goal of the season off a Miseker Wingate helper in the 42nd minute to lead 2-0 (VIDEO).

Defenses tightened in the second half keeping the action in the middle third of the field with Wheaton recording the only two shots on goal of the second half.
