Kenosha, Wis
. - Making the trip north for the second time in as many days, the Thunder women's basketball team made this one count as the Thunder tallied an impressive 72-59 victory over Carthage on Thursday night. Tonight's game was originally scheduled for Wednesday night but a power outage in Kenosha pushed the game back a day. Playing the last of seven straight games away from home, the Thunder showed no signs of road fatigue in jumping out to a 14-4 lead and leading wire to wire to improve to 8-4 on the season and 2-2 in the CCIW. Carthage falls to 8-5 overall and 1-3 in the CCIW. Wheaton will return to King Arena for its first home game since December 2 when the Thunder host North Park for a 5 pm tip on Saturday night.

Wheaton shot 48.2% (27-56) from the field at the Tarble Center including making four of its 12 three-point attempts. Wheaton dazzled at the foul line, hitting 87.5% (14-16) of its attempts. Carthage was held to 34.3% (23-67) from the field including 35.3% (6-17) from the three-point line. The Lady Reds also converted 87.5% (7-8) of its free throw attempts. Wheaton won the battle on the boards 41-34 despite being giving up 13 offensive rebounds.

Hannah Frazier helped the Thunder get off to a quick start, scoring Wheaton's first six points and and eight of its first 14 as the Thunder raced out to a 14-4 advantage over the game's first six-plus minutes. Wheaton pushed the lead to 11 on a pair of occasions but the Lady Reds scored the last five points of the first quarter to get back within 23-17 after ten minutes. Carthage cut the lead down to four points twice in the second quarter and kept the Thunder from extending the lead back to double digits as Wheaton led 36-28 at the halftime break.

Wheaton started the second half much like it did the first, going to Frazier early and stretching its lead. Frazier scored Wheaton's first five points of the third quarter and the Thunder opened the half on an 11-4 run to push the lead to 47-32 on two free throws by Jordan Myroth at the midway point of the third quarter. Maggie Dansdill took over late in the quarter, scoring Wheaton's final seven points of the stanza and helping Wheaton post a 54-41 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Frazier pushed the lead to a game-high 17 points with a jumper early in the quarter and the Lady Reds never got closer than 10 points as the Thunder closed out the road victory.

All of Wheaton's points came from its starting five, led by Frazier with 24 points to go with seven rebounds. Maggie Dansdill posted 17 points and Devin Kyler registered a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double that also included three assists and five steals. Jordan Myroth finished with 11 points and Kelly Lawson pitched in seven points, seven rebounds and five assists. Madie Kaelber and Morgan Harris led the Lady Reds with 11 points apiece.

Wheaton will be back in action on Saturday, when the Thunder welcome the CCIW-leading Vikings of North Park to King Arena for a 5 pm tipoff.
