Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's soccer can't overcome early deficit in 2-0 loss to #24-North Park

Wheaton, Ill. - A pair of early North Park goals proved to be too much to overcome for the Thunder men's soccer team. Playing its third ranked opponent in as many games, Wheaton could not rally and fell 2-0 to the #24-ranked Vikings. Wheaton is now 4-6 overall and 0-1 in conference play. North Park improved to 8-1 overall and 3-0 in the CCIW with its seventh consecutive victory. Wheaton will be back in action on Wednesday with the Thunder host Carthage at 7 pm.

North Park held a 6-2 shot advantage in the decision first half with an 13-5 overall advantage for the game. Hasten Biddlecome made six saves and allowed two goals in goal for the Thunder. North Park's Mathias Stulen made two saves in recording the shutout for the Vikings.

The Vikings took advantage of their corner kick operation to find the net for the first goal of the match when Matias Warp's header off a Gustav Ericsson corner kick put the visitors ahead 1-0 in the 26th minute. Several minutes later, a misplay by Biddlecome left the door on the goal line for an easy tap-in goal for Peder Nalum Olsen to make it 2-0 Vikings. Will Woodfin nearly halved the Viking deficit in the final minute of the first half when Will Woodfin blasted a free kick on goal but into the waiting hands of Stulen who made the save.

Peter Whallon threatened the Viking shutout attempt early in the second half only to see his shot attempt roll just wide of the right post. With 14 minutes remaining, North Park worked the ball into the middle of the 18-yard box and narrowly missed adding to its lead, sending a shot inches over the crossbar. The Vikings also threatened again in the final minutes with Erik Lundeen breaking free behind the Thunder defense, but Biddlecome came charging off his line to shut down the attack and preserve the score at 2-0.
