Thunder volleyball shuts out Lake Forest 3-0

Lake Forest, Ill. –
The Wheaton Thunder volleyball team defeated Lake Forest College 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-21) on Tuesday night in a non-conference road matchup with the Foresters (5-7).

Wheaton topped the Foresters 25-18 in the first set. Lake Forest scored the opening point of the first set, however, Wheaton responded with seven-consecutive points to take a 7-1 lead. The Thunder never trailed in the set after gaining the 7-1 lead. The largest lead of the set for the Thunder was 10 points, occurring twice.

The Thunder won a hard-fought second set 25-21 that had 14 ties and six lead changes. Lake Forest snapped a 17-17 tie with a pair of points to give hosts a 19-17 lead. Wheaton countered with a kill by Katie Rohrer to cut the lead to 19-18 and responded with another point to tie the match at 19-19. The two squads battled back-and forth to a 21-21 tie. Wheaton Madeline Moore recorded a kill to give the guests a 22-21 lead and her kill was the first of four-consecutive Thunder points as Wheaton emerged with the 25-21 victory.

Wheaton closed out the match by winning the third set 25-21. The Thunder scored the first four points and never trailed in the set. Moore recorded six kills in the set with a .333 attack percentage. Jessica Bosse had eight digs in the set.

Moored led the Thunder with 11 kills and Emily Potts added six kills for the guests. Alecia Funk tallied 12 assists and junior Kelly Thornton had 11 assists. Bosse had 22 digs in the match and Jackie Boulris added three service aces.  

The Thunder will face UW-La Crosse Saturday at noon in the CCIW/WIAC Crossover Tournament, hosted by North Central College.
