GAME STATS 2 Bluffton, Ohio - The Wheaton volleyball team opened its 2017 season on Friday at Bluffton University's Sommer Spiketacular. The Thunder opened the tournament by rallying for a 3-2 (19-25, 20-25, 25-11, 25-23, 15-11) against Kalamazoo College. Heidelberg defeated Wheaton 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 26-24) later in the day. The Thunder will close out the tournament with matches against Bluffton and Hanover.
Madeline Moore led Wheaton with 14 kills in the 3-2 victory against Kalamazoo. Senior
Katie Rohrer added 10 kills, two solo blocks and an assisted block. Fellow senior
Emily Potts tallied nine kills, against one error on only 13 attempts. Potts registered two solo blocks and an assisted block and also tallied two service aces.
Kelly Thornton had a team-high 26 assists in the match and
Alecia Funk contributed 17 assists.
Jackie Boulris had a team-high four service aces in the match and contributed nine digs. Junior Jess Bosse led the Thunder with 13 digs against the Hornets.
Moore again posted a team-high 10 kills in Friday's matchup against Heidelberg. Potts recorded seven kill with two solo blocks. Bosse led the squad with 14 digs in the match. Thornton recorded 15 assists and Funk registered 10.
