Rock Island, Ill. - The Wheaton men's tennis team defeated Augustana 5-0 on Saturday in the 2017 CCIW Men's Tennis Championship Match. The victory against the Vikings gives Wheaton its first CCIW Championship since 2012 and the 25th CCIW Championship in program history, the most by any men's tennis program in conference history.

Wheaton's CCIW Championship gives the Thunder the conference's automatic bid to the 2017 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship. The NCAA will announce tournament pairings on Monday morning at NCAA.com.

Wheaton held a 3-0 lead against the Vikings at the completion of the doubles matches. Wheaton's Justin Ancona and Matt Steiner defeated Samuel Totten and Eric Pohl 9-7 at No. 1 doubles. Dane Paulsen and Jeremiah Yi picked up an 8-3 victory at No. 2 doubles and the Thunder No. 3 doubles team of Josh Cheng and Andrew Bristol earned a 9-7 victory against Augustana's Jack Morkin and Nicholas Prabhakar.

Cheng (PICTURED LEFT) defeated Augustana's Jonathon Elsey 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. Thunder senior Andrew Torok was a 6-2, 6-2 victor at No. 6 singles against Augustana's Scott Daluga.

Wheaton is now 17-7 on the season; the Thunder men's tennis program has won nine matches in a row. Augustana ends the 2017 season with a 15-10 overall record.
