Rock Island, Ill. - The top-seeded Wheaton men's tennis team defeated No. 8 seed Illinois Wesleyan 6-0 on Thursday afternoon in the opening round of the 2017 CCIW Men's Tennis Championship. Today's victory advances the Thunder to face No. 4 seed Carthage on Friday at 11:00 a.m. in a semifinal match on the campus of Augustana College.

Wheaton won all three doubles matches against the Titans today. Wheaton's No. 1 doubles team of Justin Ancona and Matt Steiner defeated Illinois Wesleyan's Kurt Meyer and Ryan Yoo 8-1. The Thunder No. 2 doubles team of Dane Paulsen and Jeremiah Yi earned an 8-2 victory against Calen Crim and Jimmy Kase. Josh Cheng and Andrew Bristol earned an 8-0 victory at No. 3 doubles against Yash Thacker and Sid Saxena.

Yi was a 6-0, 6-0 victor at No. 4 singles against Kase; and Cheng picked up a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles against Thacker. Senior Andrew Torok was a 6-0, 6-0 victor at No. 6 singles against Saxena.
