Naperville, Ill. – The Thunder baseball team lost an 11-0 matchup against Illinois Wesleyan on Friday in the opening elimination game of the 2017 CCIW Baseball Tournament. Wheaton (24-18) is eliminated from the CCIW Baseball Tournament as a result of today's loss. Illinois Wesleyan (21-19) will play in a second elimination game on Friday at approximately 3:30 p.m. The Titans will face either No. 2 seed Augustana or No. 1 seed North Central in the final matchup of the day on Friday.
Illinois Wesleyan scored 11 runs today, on 14 hits, with two errors and Wheaton had no runs, on four hits, with two errors. Sophomore
Brett Albaugh (PICTURED ABOVE) collected two of Wheaton's four hits in the game, including a double.
Ben Brittain and
Nick Mailman each had a single for the Thunder and Mailman stole a base.
Thunder senior
Daniel Bayer (5-4) took the loss in 4-2/3 innings of work. Bayer allowed seven runs, including five earned runs, on eight hits. The senior walked one and struck out two.
Kyle Ferraro pitched 3-1/3 innings of scoreless relief. Ferraro held the Titans to two hits, with one walk.
Casey Balikian pitched 2/3 of an inning, allowing four runs, including one earned run, on three hits. Senior
Josiah Longenecker pitched 1/3 of an inning of scoreless relief, allowing one hit.

Illinois Wesleyan took a 3-0 lead with three runs in the top of the third inning. The Titans scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning to increase the IWU lead to 7-0 through five innings. Illinois Wesleyan added four runs in the top of the ninth inning to account for the 11-0 final score.
