Rock Island, Ill. - The Wheaton men's tennis team opened its 2017 conference slate at Augustana College (8-8, 3-1 CCIW) on Tuesday afternoon. The Thunder picked up the win in dominant fashion with a 9-0 victory against the Vikings. Today's win is the third in a row for the Thunder and improves Wheaton's record this season to 8-5 with a 1-0 mark in CCIW play.

Wheaton senior Justin Ancona defeated Augustana's Samuel Totten 6-3, 6-3 in the matchup at No. 1 singles. Junior Dane Paulsen earned a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles against Eric Pohl. Thunder senior Matt Steiner earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles against Connor Woolf and Wheaton's Jeremiah Yi recorded a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles against Nicholas Prabhakar. Josh Cheng earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 5 singles against Scott Daluga and Andrew Torok defeated Alex Riddle in a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles.

Ancona and Steiner teamed up for an 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles against the Augustana tandem of Pohl and Totten. The Thunder No. 2 doubles team of Paulsen and Yi picked up an 8-2 victory against the Vikings' team of Prabhakar and Woolf. Cheng partnered with Andrew Bristol for an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles against the Augustana duo of Riddle and Daluga.

Wheaton travels to Ohio Saturday for a pair of matches at Oberlin College. The Thunder face Case Western University at 9:00 a.m. (EDT) and conclude the day with a matchup against Oberlin at 1:00 p.m. (EDT)
