The Thunder softball team travels to University of Chicago

Chicago, Ill. – The Thunder softball team traveled to University of Chicago on Thursday afternoon for a non-conference doubleheader against the host Maroons. Chicago won the opener 8-1 and the Maroons edged the Thunder 2-1 in the finale.

Chicago bested the Thunder 8-1 in the opener as the Maroons scored eight runs, on 15 hits, with one error the Thunder tallied one run, on three hits with no errors. Wheaton starting pitcher Kendall Kehres allowed eight runs, on 15 hits, with two walks and two strikeouts. Kehres worked six innings in the circle for the guests.

Kelly Thornton, Sage Miller and Lauren Meurer each hit singles to account for Wheaton's three hits in the game. Hannah Clark scored a run for the Thunder in the top of the sixth inning.
Chicago edged the Thunder 2-1 in the second games thanks to two U of C runs in the bottom of the second inning. The Maroons scored two runs, on four hits, with three errors and Wheaton registered one run, on three hits with two errors. Thunder starting pitcher Jaclyn McLean took the loss in six innings of work. McLean allowed two runs, including one earned run, on four hits with two strikeouts.

Miller hit a double for the Thunder as Megan Neuhaus and McLean added singles for the guests. Wheaton gained a 1-0 lead with one run in the top of the second inning. Miller led off the top of the second with a double to left field and McLean followed with a single through the left side of the infield to advance Miller to third base. Miller scored on a Chicago throwing error to give

Wheaton a 1-0 lead. The Maroons scored twice in the bottom of the second inning to take a 2-1 lead and the hosts held on by holding Wheaton hitless in the final four innings.

Wheaton travels to Carroll April 18 for a CCIW doubleheader.
