Softball finishes up its Spring Trip with games against Ohio Northern and Nebraska Wesleyan

Clermont, Fla. – The Wheaton softball team closed out its 10-game trip to Florida with a pair of games on Thursday. Ohio Northern topped Wheaton 3-2 in the first game of the day for the Thunder. This evening, Wheaton and Nebraska Wesleyan squared off for the second time this week. NWU topped the Thunder 14-3. The Thunder will return to action on March 16 when Wheaton hosts Aurora at Ruth Leedy Field for doubleheader at 3:00 p.m.
 
In today's first game against Ohio Northern, the Polar Bears scored three runs, on five hits with two errors and Wheaton tallied two runs, on five hits, with four errors. Starting pitcher Kendall Kehres (2-4) allowed three runs, including two earned runs. She scattered four hits. Jaclyn McLean pitched 2/3 of an inning of relief with one hit and no runs allowed. Wheaton's five hits were scattered across five players, including Megan Neuhaus' double.

Wheaton gained a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. Neuhaus hit a one-out double and scored on an ONU error later in the inning. Sage Miller hit a RBI-single to left field that drove Kelly Thornton home to give the Thunder a 2-0 lead. The Polar Bears scored one run in the bottom of the second inning and tied the game at 2-2 with another run in the bottom of the third inning. ONU scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning to account for the 3-2 final score.

Nebraska Wesleyan topped Wheaton 14-3 in the final game of the trip. NWU scored 14 runs on 14 hits and Wheaton had three runs in six hits. Jaclyn McLean pitched four innings for the Thunder and Kelly Thornton worked two innings in the circle. Hannah Clark collected two hits, including a triple, and she scored twice. Morgan Ryan was 1-for-2 with two RBI as she hit a double.
