Lake Bluff, Ill. - The Wheaton men's tennis team returned to action on Saturday night for its first match since March 9 at the conclusion of its Spring Break trip to Florida. The Thunder defeated Lake Forest College 8-1 at Racquet Club of Lake Bluff. Wheaton improves to 6-5 on the season and Lake Forest is now 7-8 on the year.
Wheaton's
Justin Ancona, ranked 37th in Division III by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), was a victor at No. 1 singles. Ancona defeated Lake Forest's Dan Pivonka 6-1, 6-0.
Dane Paulsen defeated Lake Forest's Trevor Allen 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.
Matt Steiner earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Nick Zazove at No. 3 singles and
Jeremiah Yi picked up a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles against Ellis Lora-Arceo. Wheaton's
Andrew Torok earned a 7-5, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles against Nick Rehm.
Ancona and Steiner teamed for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles against Pivonka and Zazove. Paulsen and Yi picked up an 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles against Allen and Lora-Arceo.
Josh Cheng and
Andrew Bristol earned an 8-6 victory at No. 3 doubles against LFC's Rehm and Dragan Trivanovic.
The Thunder will return to action on March 31 with a regional matchup at UW-Eau Claire.
