Carol Stream, Ill. – The Thunder baseball team split a pair of games on Saturday in the final day of the Wheaton Round Robin tournament. Calvin defeated Wheaton, 4-1 in Saturday's second game and Wheaton edged Aurora 1-0 in the tournament's final game. Wheaton (8-4) will host Wheaton Round Robin II next Friday and Saturday at Lee Pfund Stadium.

John Schmitz and
Nick Johnson (PICTURED LEFT) posted a team shutout for the hosts in today's 1-0 victory against Aurora (10-3). Wheaton scored one run, on three hits, with no errors and Aurora scored no runs, on five hits, with one error.
Bayer (2-1) earned the win in seven scoreless innings as the starting pitcher. Bayer scattered five hits, with five strikeouts and he walked two batters.
John Schmitz pitched one inning of scoreless relief, with no hits allowed and he struck out two batters.
Nick Johnson earned his second save of the season in one inning of scoreless relief. Johnson struck out all three batters and held the Spartans hitless.

Rightfielder
Johnny Peltz (PICTURED RIGHT) hit a one-out single to centerfield in the bottom of the sixth inning. Peltz promptly stole second base.
Peter Newman followed with a walk on the next at bat.
Brett Albaugh singled to centerfield to drive Peltz home, giving Wheaton a 1-0 lead. Albaugh's game-winning hit was enough as Wheaton hung on for the 1-0 victory.
Calvin defeated the Thunder 4-1 earlier in the day as the Knights scored four runs, on seven hits, with one error and Wheaton scored one run, on six hits with two errors.
Kyle Ferraro (0-1) took the loss in 6-2/3 innings on the mound. Ferraro allowed two runs, scattering six hits, with five strikeouts and one walk.
Ty Hoeksema pitched 1-2/3 innings of relief. Hoeksema allowed two runs, including one earned run, on one hit, with one walk and two strikeouts. Johnson pitched 2/3 of an inning, without a run, with no hits and he struck out one batter.
Nick Mailman (PICTURED LEFT) had three of Wheaton's six hits in the game, as he was 3-for-4. Mailman scored a run and drove in one run.
Ben Brittain was 2-for-3 at the plate, with one stolen base.
Calvin scored one run in the top of the first inning to jump out to a 1-0 lead. Wheaton tied the game in the bottom of the third inning on Mailman's solo home run.
The Knights regained the lead with a run in the top of the seventh inning to give the guests a 2-1 lead. Calvin added two runs in the top of the ninth inning to account for the 4-1 final score.
The Thunder play Northland College at 5:00 p.m. on Friday March 24 in the final game of the opening day of
Wheaton Round Robin II.
