Janesville, Wis. - The Thunder men's tennis team faced a pair of regional foes on Saturday in an event hosted by UW-Whitewater. Wheaton (2-3) defeated Grinnell College on 5-4 on Saturday morning and the Thunder closed out the day with a 5-4 victory against Ohio Wesleyan.
Justin Ancona was 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 1 singles against Grinnell and
Dane Paulsen earned a 7-5, 0-6, 13-11 victory at No. 2 singles against the Pioneers.
Matt Steiner was a 6-2, 6-4 winner at No. 3 singles and
Josh Cheng earned a 6-3, 3-6, 10-7 win at No. 5 singles. Wheaton's lone win in doubles play against Grinnel was an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles by Steiner and Ancona.
In the matchup against Ohio Wesleyan, Ancona was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at No. 1 singles. Paulsen was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at No. 2 singles and Steiner picked up a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles.
Andrew Torok was a 6-3, 6-2 winner at No. 5 singles. Ancona and Steiner teamed for an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles against the Battling Bishops.
The Thunder will host Wabash on February 25 at Centre Court Athletic Club in Hanover Park, Illinois.
